ORANGE COAST, CA - Bakersfield track and field opened the season at Orange Coast College, which was highlighted by multiple top finishes from a young roster.
On the men's side, Angel Corona led the sprinters with a fourth-place finish in the 60 meters, while Aiden Nicholson followed close behind in sixth. Nicholson, Brogen Sauer, and Joaquin Garcia also competed in the 200 meters, and Orlando Zunigo represented the Renegades in both the 400 and 800 meters.
In distance action, Jacob Quezeda placed eighth in the 5,000 meters to lead Bakersfield. The men's 4x100 relay "B" team earned a second-place finish, providing one of the top results of the meet.
The throws group had a strong opening meet, led by Daniel Olvera's second-place finish in the discus and Julian Vargas' third-place showing in the hammer throw. Mason Level added a third-place finish in the javelin, while Donavan Garcia paced the Renegades in the shot put.
For the women, Marilu Flores turned in a standout performance with a second-place finish in the 60 meters and a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters. Sofia Moody added a podium finish of her own, placing third in the 5,000 meters, while several Renegades gained valuable early-season experience across events.
The Renegades will travel to Moorpark College next Friday for their next meet.
