EL CAMINO, CA - The Bakersfield College men's track and field team delivered a strong performance at the Dave Shannon Invite, highlighted by multiple top-10 finishes and personal records across both track and field events.
Leading the way on the track, freshman Jacob Quezada claimed the event title in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 9:53.62, edging teammate Edgar Gil who finished right behind in second with a PR of 9:53.99 to give the Renegades a dominant 1-2 finish. In the hurdles, Orlando Zuniga added another top performance, placing fourth in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:02.11.
In the field events, Bakersfield saw impressive depth and consistency. Kai Wilkins cleared 1.90m to finish second in the high jump, while Cordayr Brown earned a runner-up finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.58m. Samiar Grady added a third-place finish in the triple jump (13.22m), continuing the team's success in the jumps.
The throwing group also had a productive day, led by Mason Level who placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.11m, while Jayden Torres (5th, 40.65m) and Donavan Garcia (6th, 40.27m) added additional top-10 finishes. In the shot put, Donavan Garcia (5th, 12.13m), Israel Rivera (7th, 11.82m), Alexander Rosas (8th, 11.38m), and Landon Monreal (10th, 10.84m) all scored top-10 marks. Daniel Olvera paced the discus throwers with a fifth-place finish and personal-best throw of 44.13m, followed by Mason Level (7th) and Jayden Torres (8th), as Bakersfield continued to show strength across the throws.
Overall, the Renegades demonstrated growth and competitiveness throughout the meet, with several athletes posting personal bests and gaining momentum as the season progresses.
