MOORPARK, CA - The Bakersfield College men's track and field team delivered a strong performance at the Western State Conference Championships, finishing 4th overall while recording multiple top-five finishes against a competitive field.
Leading the way on the track, freshman Jacob Quezada had a standout meet, finishing 2nd in the 800 meters (1:57.24) and 2nd in the 3000m steeplechase (10:02.01). He also ran a personal best in prelims to qualify for the finals. Teammate Edgar Gil added a 5th-place finish in the steeplechase (10:23.65), while Daniel Cuevas followed closely with a strong showing.
In the field events, the Renegades saw impressive performances across the board. Freshman Daniel Olvera captured the conference title in discus (43.78m), while Jayden Torres (4th, 40.09m PB) and Mason Level (5th, 39.53m) gave BC three top-five finishers in the event. Level continued his strong meet in the hammer throw, earning 2nd place (45.19m), while Jacob Powell added a 6th-place finish.
In the jumps, freshman Kai Wilkins soared to a 2nd-place finish in the high jump (2.05m PB), and Cordayr Brown placed 2nd in the long jump (6.80m PB) while also contributing in multiple events for the Renegades.
Additional top-five efforts and scoring performances highlighted the team's depth, helping secure the 4th-place team finish.
Following the WSC Finals, a strong group of Renegades have qualified to continue their postseason at the SoCal Regional Prelims this weekend, hosted at Memorial Stadium. Those advancing include Jacob Quezada, Edgar Gil, Daniel Cuevas, Talen Monaco, Cordayr Brown, Samiar Grady, Jacob Powell, Daniel Olvera, Jayden Torres, Mason Level, and Cooper Pardue.
With momentum from conference and the advantage of competing at home, Bakersfield College now turns its focus to the next stage of postseason competition.
