BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College softball team hosted Santa Ana College on a sunny, Saturday game and came away with the sweep.
Game 1: Bakersfield 7, Santa Ana 6
The Renegades jumped out early in the opener, plating four runs in the first inning to set the tone. Santa Ana responded with a three-run second and added two more in the fifth to keep the pressure on, but Bakersfield answered when it mattered most.
BC totaled nine hits in the game, highlighted by a strong performance from Alexia Marquez, who went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Isabella Harrison delivered in key moments, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Alexia Martinez and Andrea Barajas each drove in a run. The Renegades were aggressive on the bases, with stolen bases from Maddy Ortiz (two), Ava Velasquez, and Harrison.
In the circle, Lillian Visser made the start, tossing 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Cassidy Torres came on in relief and shut the door, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings to secure the win.
Despite Santa Ana's 10-hit effort, the Renegades capitalized on five Dons errors to edge out the 7-6 victory.
Game 2: Bakersfield 10, Santa Ana 5
Game two saw another competitive battle early before Bakersfield broke things open with a six-run sixth inning to seal the sweep.
BC tallied nine hits and made the most of its opportunities at the plate. Andrea Barajas had a huge game, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs. Emily Hernandez scored three runs and added a double with two RBIs, while Jennifer Padilla launched a home run and drove in two. Maddy Ortiz and Harrison also contributed key hits to keep the offense rolling.
Santa Ana collected 12 hits in the nightcap, but Bakersfield's pitching staff limited the damage. Maddy Ortiz worked 5.2 innings in the circle, allowing just three earned runs while striking out two. Alexia Martinez closed out the final 1.1 innings to secure the 10-5 win.
