BAKERSFIELD, CA - Bakersfield battled through four quarters but ultimately fell to visiting Taft, 80–61, on Friday afternoon at the Renegade Athletic Center.
Taft, now 15–1 on the season, set the tone early by jumping out to a 17–11 lead after the first quarter. The Renegades responded with their strongest stretch of the game in the second period, outscoring Taft 22–16 to take a 33–32 lead into halftime.
The momentum shifted after the break as Taft controlled the third quarter, holding Bakersfield to just eight points while scoring 21 of their own. The Cougars continued to apply pressure in the fourth, outscoring the Renegades 26–20 to pull away for the 19-point win.
For Bakersfield (8–5), Danika Tolentino paced the Renegades with 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Alexia Ramirez posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Beautiful Vasquez contributed eight points off the bench and Nevaeh Matthews added seven.
BC will look to bounce back as they will have one more nonconference game against Fresno right after the holiday break.
