VENTURA, CA - Sophomores Kailani Lua and Naomi Pavletich closed out their Bakersfield College careers with an outstanding postseason performance at the 3C2A State Championships, highlighted by a historic run to the doubles semifinals.
The duo advanced all the way to the semifinal round in doubles, marking the deepest postseason run by a BC doubles pair in at least the last five years—and potentially even longer. Their remarkable showing stands as one of the program's most memorable postseason achievements in recent history.
Both athletes also delivered impressive performances in singles play after beginning the tournament in the Round of 128. Pavletich battled her way into the Round of 16, while Lua advanced to the Round of 32, showcasing the strength and depth of the Renegades' sophomore leaders on the state stage.
Adding to an already special weekend, Pavletich was honored the night before competition at the championship dinner, where she received the Most Improved Sophomore Award for the entire state—a tremendous recognition of her hard work, growth, and dedication throughout the season.
Together, Lua and Pavletich not only represented Bakersfield College with excellence but also helped set a new standard for postseason success in the women's tennis program.
