BAKERSFIELD, CA - Bakersfield College women's wrestling made history this past weekend, hosting the first-ever women's collegiate tournament in Kern County with the Bakersfield Open.
The Renegades delivered an impressive showing on their home mats, highlighted by multiple top placing and a dominant individual championship performance. Leading the way was freshman Jennifer Salinas Cisneros, who captured the 110-pound title with authority, going undefeated with three wins by fall and one by technical fall, including a 38-second pin in the finals. The freshman was awarded most outstanding lower weight wrestler. At 103 pounds, Celia Esquivel battled her way to a runner-up finish, recording two quick falls before advancing to the championship bout. Mikayla Weller also secured a second-place finish at 117 pounds, earning a semifinal pin to reach the finals. Aryanah Singh added to the team's success with a fourth-place finish at 145 pounds, picking up a pair of technical fall victories along the way.
The tournament marked a significant milestone for the program and the region, as Bakersfield College continues to elevate women's wrestling while showcasing strong individual performances across multiple weight classes.
