BC Dominates East LA 61–7, Ending Losing Streak
BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College football team put an end to a five-game losing streak in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium with a 61-7 victory over East LA College.
 
Just three plays into the game, defensive back Richard Gooden put the Renegades on the board with a 48-yard Pick 6. After ELAC tied the game at 7 later in the 1st quarter, BC took the lead for good when running back Ja'Daniel Nettles' 4-yard touchdown rush gave the Gades a 14-7 lead at the 3:59 mark.
 
In the 2nd quarter, BC's Nsongbeh Ginyui scooped up a fumble at the East LA 15 and took it into the endzone, giving the Bakersfield a 21-7 lead. BC then converted another Huskies turnover, as Gooden picked off an errant ELAC pass for an interception and touchdown, increasing BC's lead to 28-7. Another fumble, forced by and recovered by sophomore Walker Maino, set up running back Ian Jernigan's 24-yard touchdown rush on the very next play, giving the Renegades a 35-7 lead going into halftime.
 
The 3rd quarter also started with a bang as BC only needed three plays after the kickoff to light up the scoreboard again. Taking possession at their own 36, Nettles scampered 41 yards down to the ELAC 23. After Jernigan rushed for 9 yards, Nettles scampered the final 14 yards to the endzone for the score. Carlos Villa's 6th PAT of the game making the score 42-7. Later in the 3rd quarter, Bakersfield put together a 6-play, all on the ground touchdown drive resulting in a quarterback Malachi Statler 1-yard plunge into the endzone.
 
The 4th quarter saw more scoring as Nettles scored on a 7-yard rushing touchdown at 9:50, and later, BC closed out their scoring with a Jernigan 11-yard touchdown at 6:57.
 
The Renegades will be right back at home next weekend to host its final home game of the season against Orange Coast College. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM, and Bakersfield will be honoring all its local Veterans that night
