BC Shuts out Pirates 59-0 on Sophomore Day
BAKERSFIELD, CA - For the second consecutive week, the Renegades put on a total dominant display of football Saturday afternoon in defeating Orange Coast College 59-0 in the annual Sophomore Day at Memorial Stadium.
 
It didn't take long for the scoring onslaught to commence as BC needed only 3 plays to post their first of 8 touchdowns (7 rushing) for the game with a Ja'Daniel Nettles 32-yard scamper into the endzone. For the game, Nettles posted 122 yards on the turf to go along with his one TD. After a BC defensive stop, the Gades needed only five plays to cover 76 yards, culminating with the 1st of 3 touchdowns by Ian Jernigan (14 carries - 141 yards).
 
Two plays in to the 2nd quarter, Jernigan again scored at the end of a 10 play-71 yard drive followed later in the quarter with touchdowns by Malachi Statler's 1-yard QB sneak and Statler's 24 yard TD pass to Ben Spears putting the Gades up 35-0 at halftime.
 
On the first play from scrimmage after receiving the opening kickoff of the 2nd half at the 34-yard line, Amarius Rowel exploded for an end-around 66-yard touchdown, giving the Gades a 42-point lead. Later in the 3rd quarter, Jernigan scored on a 7-yard run and Statler posted his 2nd rushing touchdown of the game at the end of a 7 play, 85-yard drive. A Carlos Villa 41-yard field goal in the 4th quarter closed out the scoring for the game.
 
BC's team defense was equally dominant in pitching the shutout of OCC, holding the Pirates to just 71 net rushing yards while recording 3 interceptions (Tyler Lewis, Nsongbeh Ginyui, Blaine Neudorf) and forcing 9 punts.
 
The Renegades (4-5, 2-4) conclude the regular season with a road game against College of the Canyons (3-6, 3-3) next Saturday, November 8. Kick off scheduled for 12 Noon.
