Renegades Fall in Overtime Thriller to Ventura, 96–93

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College men's basketball team battled wire-to-wire in an electric matchup at the Renegade Athletic Center but came up just short in overtime, falling 96–93 to a tough Ventura squad on Thursday night for First Responders Night.

The Renegades started hot, shooting 55.6% from the field in the first half and building a 54–40 lead behind sharp perimeter play. Bakersfield knocked down an impressive 15 three-pointers on the night, led by Gustavo Chavez's 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc and Zach Garnett's 17 points, including three triples of his own.

James Miller provided a major spark off the bench, finishing with 15 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while Markell Brooks added 13 points and eight boards. BC dominated the glass overall, outrebounding Ventura 45–35.

Ventura rallied late behind a monster performance from Jerimiyah Smith, who poured in 40 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Despite Bakersfield's defensive effort, the Pirates forced overtime and edged out the Renegades in the extra period.

The loss moves BC to 6–5 on the season. The Renegades return to action next week on the road at El Camino on Wednesday before returning home on the 20th for one final home game of the 2025 year.
