BAKERSFIELD, CA - Bakersfield put together a strong all-around performance on the road Saturday afternoon, pulling away for a 96–80 win over LA Valley at the Monarchs' home gym.
The Renegades shot 54.3 percent from the field in the first half and taking a 47–33 lead into the break. Bakersfield continued to control the tempo in the second half, scoring 49 points to keep LA Valley at arm's length the rest of the way.
Markell Brooks led all scorers with a dominant double-double, pouring in 30 points on 11-of-19 shooting while pulling down 16 rebounds. Brooks was a force on the glass and in the paint, helping Bakersfield finish with a 50–30 rebounding advantage and 21 second-chance points.
Zach Garnett added 17 points, knocking down three triples and contributing six rebounds, while Zykiar Henderson chipped in 12 points and seven boards. Godwill Fomusoh provided a big spark off the bench with 15 points on an efficient 6-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Bakersfield's bench outscored LA Valley 32–24.
As a team, Bakersfield shot 54.5 percent from the field and 45 percent from three-point range, while also scoring 46 points in the paint.
With the win, Bakersfield improves to 11–9 overall and 3–3 in conference play. Up next, BC returns home to host Canyons College on Wednesday, January 28th with tip-off set for 5:00 PM.
