Renegades Pull Away Late to Top Canyons, 85–78

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield Men's Basketball team picked up a big home win Wednesday night, defeating Canyons 85–78 at the Renegade Athletic Center to improve to 12-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

The game was tight from the opening tip, with both teams locked at 37–37 heading into halftime. Bakersfield turned up the intensity in the second half, shooting 52.6% from the field and outscoring the Cougars 48–41 over the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.

Zykiar Henderson led all scorers with a dominant performance, pouring in 25 points on an efficient 11-of-14 shooting while adding seven rebounds and a team-high five blocks. Markell Brooks was strong on the glass, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Zach Garnett chipped in 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including two three-pointers.

James Miller added 11 points and three assists, and Elijah Wade contributed nine points, five rebounds, and three assists to help guide the Renegades offensively.

Bakersfield controlled the paint, outscoring Canyons 52–32 inside, and held a slight rebounding edge (44–42), which proved critical down the stretch. The Renegades also matched the Cougars with 24 points off turnovers and 26 second-chance points.

Canyons was led by Thomas Pickens with 19 points, while Dwayne Boston Jr. and Jeremiah Williams each added 15 points.

The Renegades will head back on the road to start the second half of conference play at Santa Monica College on Saturday, January 31st.
