SANTA MONICA, CA. — The Bakersfield men's basketball picked up a key road win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Santa Monica 83–74 at Corsair Gymnasium to improve to 13–9 overall and 5–3 in conference play.
The Renegades led wire-to-wire, taking a 39–35 advantage into halftime before outscoring the Corsairs 44–39 in the second half. Bakersfield's efficiency at the free throw line proved to be a difference maker, as the Renegades finished a perfect 19-for-19 from the stripe.
Zach Garnett led all scorers with 22 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, while adding three rebounds and three assists. Elijah Wade followed with 15 points and a team-high six assists, and Zykiar Henderson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Godwill Fomusoh provided a strong presence off the bench, contributing 12 points and eight rebounds, as Bakersfield's bench accounted for 22 points. Emarion Armstrong also added a spark in limited minutes, scoring six points on a perfect 2-for-2 shooting.
Bakersfield dominated the paint, outscoring Santa Monica 44–24 inside, and held a 41–35 rebounding advantage. The Renegades also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 13 points off offensive rebounds.
Up next, BC will head out to West LA on Wednesday before returning home on Saturday to take on Antelope Valley.
