BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College volleyball team came out strong in the opening set but fell in four to College of the Canyons (20-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-21) on Friday night inside the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
The Renegades opened the night with a 25-20 first-set win, fueled by freshman Paige Fredrick's 10 kills and a balanced offensive effort from sophomore Alexandra Watts and freshman Lainey Sterling. Despite Bakersfield's momentum early, Canyons regrouped to claim the next three sets and take the match.
Watts led the Renegades with 11 kills, while Fredrick added 10 kills and 7.5 points. Setter Maya Barron put together the offense with 34 assists and contributed defensively with seven digs. Amanda Zepeda and Keira Wolf anchored the service line, combining for eight aces, while Chloe Lopez collected a team-high 24 digs.
Bakersfield finished the match hitting .171 as a team, compared to Canyons' .222, while also recording 13 service aces and eight total blocks.
The Renegades will look to bounce back as they continue Western State Conference play. Up next, volleyball will hit the road to take on Antelope Valley on Wednesday before returning home to take on Glendale on Friday.
