Football Collects First Win of the Season over Santa Monica

Santa Monica, CA - The Renegade football team traveled to Santa Monica College on Saturday evening in what would be their first victory of the season 41-6 over the Corsairs in week three.

Sophomore running back Shane Jones scored two quick touchdowns in the first quarter to put the Renegades out to a quick 14-0 lead. The first touchdown was a 29 yard run and the second was a 59 yard run down the far sideline for his first and second touchdown's of the season. Sophomore kicker Paxton Winders missed his first field goal on the season after going wide left on a 40 yard field goal attempt towards the end of the first quarter.

It was all defense the rest of the first half for BC. Sophomore defensive back Zach Hernandez picked off the Santa Monica QB and returned his third interception of the season 45 yards for a touchdown. Before going into the break with 8 seconds on the clock, the Renegades forced a Santa Monica punt that freshman wide receiver Cole Beaty returned for a another score. The Winders extra point was no good and at the break BC was in complete control of the game, 27-0.

BC's sophomore quarterback Braden Wingle connected with Luke Soto for a passing touchdown with 9:31 left in the third quarter to increase the lead, 34-0. BC freshman linebacker Cameron Williams got in on the defensive action when he came up with another BC pick, his first of the season. On the following offensive drive for the Renegades, Wingle found sophomore tight end Zach Hartsfield who rumbled over multiple Santa Monica defenders to find the endzone.

Santa Monica was able to avoid the shutout with a touchdown of their own to open up the fourth quarter, but failed to convert the extra point.

Bakersfield finished the game with 329 yards of total offense compared to 204 for the Corsairs. Shane Jones led the Renegades offensively with 93 yards on 15 carries with the two touchdowns.
