BAKERSFIELD, CA- The Bakersfield College men's basketball team hosted the College of the Canyons Cougars on a Wednesday evening. The Cougars came to the Renegades with only a 1-4 conference record. Successfully, BC handed the COC another conference loss, 67-57.
Straight out the gates BC goes on the board first. It was a slow first three minutes as COC did not get their first point and Bakersfield didn't score another field goal until the fourth minute in. Fortunately, that would be the only dull moment of the half. At the first timeout, Renegades went up 7 points. Cougars tried scratching at their lead and did manage to tie the game at 18 points with 12 minutes left. However, Bakersfield jumped right back and took their largest lead of the night with 9 points (32-23) with about three and a half minutes left to play in the half. Both teams take it back to the locker rooms with a BC lead, 36-29.
Contributing to the Renegades large lead was Rahmel Davis with 14 points followed by teammate Eloy Medina scoring 50% of his 3-pointers supplying 12 points. Sophomore Tyrell Coleman continued to support the Renegades with 10 assists.
Into the second half and Canyons takes the first goal this time but three points total in the first six minutes would be all they scored. Bakersfield went on a 17-3 run before the first timeout of the half was taken. COC got as close as only trailing by 8 in the game with five minutes left in the game and again with 17 seconds, but BC continued to hold their lead until the end.
Ending the night with his second triple double of the season was Coleman with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. As a team Bakersfield scored 21-6 from their bench and shot 61% in free throws.
With the win, the Renegades improve to 10-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play on the season. Bakersfield will head out for the road for the next two conference games. Renegades will return home on February 2nd taking on Citrus.
