Bakersfield Defeats LA Valley on Sophomore Night

BAKERSFIELD, CA- On the night of Sophomore Night, the Bakersfield College men's basketball team took on the LA Valley Monarchs in a rescheduled match up. The Renegades and LAVC were originally suppose to play in January but postponed due to covid related issues, the game was then scheduled for yesterday but weather conditions would keep LA Valley from coming down. Thursday night would be the final day BC would be able to fit in their final conference and regular season game. Bakersfield defeated the Valley, 58-38.

The offense started slow as the first field goal wasn't scored until about three minutes into the game. LA Valley scored the first field goal going to the line and getting one point. Bakersfield answered right back and took a quick lead. BC took a commanding eight-point lead before the first timeout was called (16-8) with 10 minutes left. Renegades took their largest lead of 14 points, but the Monarchs started scratching in on their lead only trailing by nine points with five minutes to go in the first half. BC went into the locker room with another 14-point lead (31-17).

Leading the Renegades in the first half was freshman guard Rahmel Davis with 11-points followed by sophomore Tyrell Coleman.

Into the second half BC started the scoring drive and continued to stretch out their lead. At one point in the second, the Renegades led by 23-points with about three minutes remaining in the contest. Bakersfield cleared their roster to run away with the ball game.

With the win, the Renegades end the regular season with an overall record of 16-11 and 7-7 in conference. Bakersfield will wait until after the weekend to await a possible playoff game next week.
