Men's Basketball Defeats Visiting Condors

BAKERSFIELD, CA – The Bakersfield College men's basketball team hosted the Oxnard College Condors in a makeup game that was postponed from December 2nd in the Gil Bishop Sports center on Friday evening and won 74-62.

The `Gades got out to slow start, trailing OC by nine points, scoring their first field goal a minute in and not scoring their next point seven minutes after. A few layups, a three pointer from the team and a jump shot from sophomore guard Sean Fry would give Bakersfield their first lead, 17-16, of the night with less than five minutes in the half. The Condors tied the game at 18 points but the Renegades went back to the locker room with a 26-25 lead.

Into the second half BC would start off the scoring drives and go on a 10-2 run. Bakersfield took their largest lead at 16 points twice in the first ten minutes of the second half before Oxnard started slowly scratching back. Fortunately, the Condors only got as close as eight points in the final five minutes and the Renegades never trailed behind Oxnard.

Fry led the `Gades with 20 points while teammates Rahmel Davis and Ipreye Egbe followed him with 13 points to end the night. As a team, Bakersfield finished the game making 72% of its free-throws.

With the win, the Renegades improve to a 6-5 overall record. BC will play one more home game of the year at home Thursday at 7pm against Cuesta College before they begin conference play in January.
