MEN'S SOCCER STIFLED BY SANTA BARBARA

The Bakersfield College Men's Soccer team (1-4-1) lost 4-1 on the road to Santa Barbara (4-1) Tuesday.

"This is a team that hasn't given up a goal in their last three matches," Head Coach Vayron Martinez said, "So we have to acknowledge that we are getting better, but the improvements are coming against some of the best teams in the state, so the scorecard doesn't always reflect the strides being made."

Santa Barbara has blanked their last three opponents, while scoring at least two goals in each of those wins.

Bakersfield will face the #1 ranked team in the state (Fresno City College) and the defending State Champion (Oxnard College) in the next two weeks, but Martinez sees it as a positive.

"This is a chance for us to gain critical experience; those games will make us better one way or another, and possibly in more ways than one. You don't get better playing less competitive teams, you just feel better about the outcome," Martinez said.

The Renegades host Allan Hancock College this Friday, September 16th in Memorial Stadium at 7p. Tickets are available at the gate, or in advance by calling or visiting Vallitix.com.
