Renegades Hand the Vaqueros their First Lost in an Aggressive Bout

Bakersfield, CA – Bakersfield College's men soccer team took on a top ranked CCCSIA, Santa Barbara Vaqueros after the team tied the top ranked, Taft College, last week. The Renegades found a way to come out on top, 1-0 and give the #14 Vaqueros their first loss of the season.

Besides a few fouls, the first 45 minutes of the contest was quiet. Both teams struggled offensively as the first half remained scoreless. Santa Barbara and Bakersfield both exchanged shots, with the Vaqueros almost going into half with a point but a late call would rule it offsides.

Going into the second half Santa Barbara took over the procession of the game as they were hungry to show their dominance. A quick water break would be all the Renegades needed to help them get on the board. Freshman Anthony Miron came up big for BC as he scored a driving goal from the halfway line to beat SBCC's goalkeeper to the punch. Vaqueros continued to push forward to try and get the equalizer, but BC continued to hold on to SBCC defensively with goalkeeper Adrian Sandoval having three big saves in the second half.  Even though both teams continued to play aggressively in the final 10 minutes of the contest to score another goal, Bakersfield would be the team celebrating as the final whistle blows.

Men's soccer will be on the road for four matches starting with West Hills Lemoore on September 21st at 4pm.
