Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College women's basketball team opened up their 2018-19 campaign hosting Antelope Valley College at the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Friday and came away with a disappointing loss, 59-62.

The first quarter was a back and forth battle and it wasn't until the second quarter that the Renegades established a lead. The Marauders never let down though and managed to stay within one point at the break 34-33.

The second half proved to be just as much of a back and forth battle as the first half with both teams exchanging the lead multiple times. Antelope Valley began to maintain the lead throughout the fourth quarter, but was only able to keep a lead of no more than four points. Bakersfield had opportunities to come back, but was unable to convert.

The Renegades struggled at the foul line throughout the night going 12/24 and had 33 turnovers compared to only 21 for Antelope Valley.

"We have to make free throws and had too many turnovers," said Coach Paula Dahl, "We need to work a lot harder on rebounding. But, first game – a lot of learning to do, just need to go up and up."

Leading the way for BC on the game was Brianna Mendez with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Dasia Wandick with 12 points 13 rebounds and Jasmyn Rodriguez with 10 and 6 rebounds.

The Renegades will be in action tomorrow at home against Pasadena City College at 3pm in the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
