Bakersfield, CA – Head Wrestling Coach Brett Clark announced today that he is stepping down to pursue opportunities out of state.
"I'm grateful for my time to come back to BC and coach after having been a student athlete here," said Coach Clark. "I'd like to thank both the athletic and campus administration for allowing me the opportunity to coach and have an influence in the lives of so many Renegade student athletes throughout the years. I have many memories from my time here that will not soon be forgotten."
Coach Clark had served as the head wrestling coach at BC for the last seven years. Prior to being the head coach he had served as assistant coach for the program from 2003-2010. Under his leadership Renegade Wrestling has won three of the last four SCWA Southeast wrestling conference titles and in each of those seasons he and Co-Head Coach Marcus Austin were awarded Conference Coach of the Year honors. This last season (2019) the program took third at the CCCAA State Wrestling Championships with Jordan Hunter taking first in the 174 lb. class and Jordan Annis taking 2nd in the 184 lb. class.
"Coach Clark has been a tremendous strength to the BC Wrestling program over the years," said Interim BC Dean of Kinesiology/Athletic Director Reggie Bolton. "The accomplishments of the program during his time speak to his leadership and the passion he has put into coaching our student athletes. We wish Coach Clark and his family all the best in his future endeavors. His presence will be missed here at BC."
Coach Clark was a football student athlete at BC from 1995-96 and then transferred to play his final two years at Southern University (LA). He also coached wrestling at the high school level in Bakersfield as the head coach for the Frontier High School Girls Wrestling team the last few years as well as stops at Mira Monte High School (2010-2017)and Cesar Chavez High School (2008-2010). In 2019 he was named by BVarsity as the 2019 All-Area Girls Wrestling Coach of the Year.
