The Bakersfield College Women's tennis team (11-7, 4-4) won their third match in a row with a 9-0 blowout of Santa Monica College (1-5, 1-4) Tuesday at the Bakersfield College Tennis Courts.
"We are 11-7 now, and that guarantees us a winning season regardless of what happens the rest of the way because we only have two matches left. That said, we just want to keep winning," Coach Nick Loudermilk said.
Santa Monica's roster has been depleted by injuries and they brought only four players to Bakersfield, and that put them in a 3-0 hole before play even began.
#1 Riley Tucker beat Masha Petrovic 6-2, 6-2 in the featured match of the day.
#2 Brittney Aguilar beat Lauren Voiers 6-4, 6-1.
"That was sweet revenge for Brittney," Coach Loudermilk said, "She lost to Voiers 6-1, 6-2 the last time they played and I knew that was on Brittney's mind (in practice) leading up to this match."
#3 Kaylee Defrees kept BC's momentum rolling with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sammie Xiao, and #4 Andrea Lopez was dominant in her 6-0, 6-1 drubbing of Maya Narumi.
#1 Doubles team Riley Tucker and Kaylee Defrees picked up an 8-2 win over Petrovic and Voiers.
"Those two have chemistry, and now they are three for three in conference play as a doubles team," Coach Loudermilk said.
BC's #2 doubles team of Diana Brooks and Hannah Moreno completed the shutout with an 8-4 victory over Xiao and Narumi.
"They have been playing their best tennis in the last couple of weeks. We are heading into Santa Barbara (10-2, 7-1) with a three game winning streak on Thursday for what will be a Western State Conference showdown, and they beat us 9-0 last time. But these girls are feeling confident right now, and we will find out a lot about this team after Thursday," Coach Loudermilk said.
