Kurt Townson Named Head Baseball Coach

BAKERSFIELD, CA – Bakersfield College Athletics is excited to announce the promotion of Kurt Townson to Head Baseball Coach.

"I am excited because Kurt was an alumnus, he was an assistant coach and now he takes over the helm of the head coach Painton and delighted to see what direction he will take the program," said Athletic Director Reggie Bolton. "He is more than qualified to lead the program and will bring lots of knowledge in leading BC baseball but also mentoring and coaching our student athletes."

"It's an exciting day for myself and my family. I am honored and blessed to be named the new Head Coach of BC Baseball," said Townson.

Prior to this season he had served as the assistant coach and had several stints at Bakersfield College. He was a former Renegade baseball player under former head coach John Moncier in the early 90's before transferring to Chapman University to continue his collegiate career. Coach Townson started his coaching career at North High School in '95 and '96 for Tony Silver then made his way to Gerry Collis Field in '97 to assist coach Tim Painton until 2005. Kurt remained an instrumental part of the program by helping with summer league from 2011 to 2022 on transitioning high school infielders to incoming freshman.

"Kurt Townson is the right person to head the BC baseball program. He is a former player, assistant coach with a wealth of baseball knowledge. He understands community college athletics and is very connected in the Bakersfield Community. He has a strong connection to BC baseball alumni, has supported all the baseball program's fundraising need, and is very familiar with returning players and high school players in town," said former head coach Tim Painton.

Townson feels flattered to replace an icon, Tim Painton, at BC and will do his best to make the program proud.
