Softball Wins Two Games to Advance to the Next Round

BAKERSFIELD, CA – The Bakersfield College softball team got a must-needed win against Long Beach City College on the second game of the series to force a doubleheader. They rallied together on the second day and won two straight games to win the series. The Renegades will travel down south to take on Mt. San Antonio College for round two for the second year in a row.

In the first game of the doubleheader, an early lead helped BC defeat long beach 9-3. Pitcher Kadyn Smith hit a double while sophomores Anika Romo and Rylee Price hit home runs in the first inning to put the Renegades up 4-1. The Vikings added two runs in the second while Bakersfield added another run to maintain their lead. 

Smith got the win for Renegades going seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out three. The game had a total of four home runs from Price, Smith, Romo, and Destiny Cuellar who hit her first career home run. 

In the second game, BC came back late scoring two runs in the sixth to win 6-4. Throughout the game, it was mainly tied as the score stayed 4-4 after four innings. The next two innings decided the game after shortstop Shelbie Valencia gave the Gades the lead hitting a triple to bring home Anika Romo while Smith singled to center field allowing Valencia to come home for the insurance run.  

Ryleigh Harrison took the win for the final game, going five innings and allowing only one run.
