Volleyball Wins over Citrus on Sophomore Night

BAKERSFIELD, CA – The night started out celebrating the Bakersfield College volleyball team's four sophomores, Tia Jules, Makenna Knapp, Kami Marion and Tori Robertson. Celebration continued with honoring head coach Carl Ferreira with a plaque for his 500 career wins but the performance did not stop there as the Renegades defeated the Citrus College Owls, 3-1.

Bakersfield and Citrus played a close game tying at 10 points until Citrus went on a 7-1 run to force BC to call a timeout. The Renegades started closing in on the Owls gap but the first set went to the visitors, 25-19.

Into the second set and both teams tied the set up four times before BC took their largest lead of the night, at the time, leading 20-17. Citrus keep close, never falling below three points. With just one point separating the game (24-23) the Owls gave the winning point to the Renegades on a short serve.

With the game now tied, the Gades kept their momentum and jumped to 11-6 lead and continued to lead from there. BC won the third set, 25-16 and ran out of the gates to an 8-0 lead in the fourth set. Bakersfield added four more points before the Owls went on a 6-0 run. Fortunately the Renegades had built a large enough lead to win, 25-17.

Leading the pack tonight was freshman Alexandra Johnson with 16 kills and 18 digs while teammate Kya Jones had 17 digs.

With the win, BC moves to a 11-8 overall record and a 7-3 conference record. The team will play one more road match before the cross over match which will be determined by the final match of the regular season.
